The course is a progression of the previous semester's foundation course. Objects of procedure such as; detection of crime and arrest; the criminal courts; a prosecution; summary trial; cases proceeding to the crown court for trial; adjournments; bail and sentencing; the crown court; the youth court; appeal procedure will be given preliminary attention to, much focus will be to understand key procedural aspects of the criminal justice system such as; criminal procedural rights as viewed from the United Kingdom's perspective in the light of the European Convention of Human Rights, the Advesarial and Inquisitorial systems, the admissibility, exclusion and arguements for the exclusion of evidence in criminal trials, legal assistance, rights to silence and freedom from self incrimination, models of criminal procedure and trial.
